Removable data storage vendor Imation has introduced inkjet printable CDs and DVDs with an AquaGuard surface - a water- and smear-resistant surface for inkjet printable media.
"Water resistance is a feature that our customers have been requesting for many years," says Mark Strobel, VP of sales and marketing at DVD and CD printer vendor Primera.
"Imation`s AquaGuard surface delivers the print quality, instantaneous drying and water resistance that will allow inkjet printed CDs and DVDs to be used in virtually any application where exposure to raindrops, snowflakes or immediate handling was a concern."
Imation says the product uses a proprietary surface that utilises nanoparticle technology to grip and hold ink, and printed images are locked in place exactly where originally applied. The product`s surface is compatible with all models of inkjet-based disc duplication and printing equipment from Primera, as well as disc-printable systems from Epson.
The new media is available in Japan in 52x CD-R, 16x DVD-R and 16x DVD+R formats and will be available in the US in the second quarter and other regions later this year.
