The Western Cape Provincial Parliament's (WCPP) portal was recently re-launched in line with the national "10 Years of Freedom" campaign. The portal, www.wcpp.gov.za, has been deployed to serve citizens, parliamentarians and government officials of the Western Cape provincial government.
Cape Town-based systems integrator, Shocked Technology Solutions (Shocked), was awarded the tender to design and develop the portal.
Says James Retief, WCPP project manager: "The new portal caters for our business processes and maximises access to information to our stakeholders. Furthermore, it sets a benchmark in terms of transparency in provincial government circles."
Features of the portal include content and document management, diary management, contact management, advance search and collaboration. These tools enable content like agendas, minutes, bills, meeting calendars, MPP contact details and others.
ConteXt, a content management solution developed by Shocked, was used as a base solution then further customised according the client requirements. Developed on a Microsoft platform, the solution strikes the correct balance between business process and technology needed for content management.
Luqman Fredericks, Project Manager at Shocked, says: "ConteXt allowed us to provide WCPP with a best of breed solution at a fraction of the cost, rapid implementation time and flexibility for customisation."
Retief highlighted that the Shocked team's ability to deliver the entire project in a period of eight weeks on time and budget, was impressive.
Shocked Technology Solutions is a black-owned and managed systems integrator, providing solutions on the Microsoft and SAP platforms. Established in 1999, Shocked has a track record of blue-chip clients in the public and private sectors.
