The Western Cape's online hub targets young people in Gugulethu and Manenberg.

Starting today, some 2 500 young people from Gugulethu and Manenberg will have access to a youth safe-hub fully equipped with access.

The safe-hub, an initiative of the Western Cape province, will be officially unveiled by premier Helen Zille today and forms part of the 'After Schools Game-Changer'.

The Western Cape government has adopted a game-changer programme, which identifies the key levers that will accelerate delivery of the province's long-term vision. The province has envisaged a "highly skilled, innovation-driven, resource-efficient, connected, high opportunity society for all".

According to the province, to support the growth targets of economic sectors, skills development in the technical and vocational and training sector has been identified as one of the game-changers. Over the next three years, R534 million will be committed to this game-changer by the Western Cape government and its partners.

A statement says the safe-hub, located opposite the Nyanga Junction train station, will be hosted on the grounds of Intshukumo Secondary School. The hub will ensure youths in the area have access to Internet facilities in an on-site youth caf'e.

The Western Cape government partnered with the City of Cape Town, Amandla EduFootball, the Oliver Kahn Foundation and other stakeholders to operate the safe-hub.

It will include a training academy, life-skills programmes, academic tutoring and work readiness training.
