WD unveils 6TB hard drive

(WD) has rolled out a 6TB external hard drive called My Book Studio Edition II, reports The Inquirer.

Cnet says WD's My Book Studio Edition II is geared towards Mac creative professionals and businesses that need to store a large number of high-definition videos and photos.

The drive provides four ports for connectivity, namely USB 2.0, eSata, FireWire 400 and 800. It comes configured for RAID0, which can boost performance by splitting across two discs, and supports RAID1, which mirrors data across multiple discs as a form of protection.

According to Tom's Hardware, the 6TB drive comes packed with two 3TB hard drives mounted within the My Book enclosure.

WD says the external drive uses one-third less power than standard dual-drive external storage systems due to its WD GreenPower Technology.

Desktop Review.com, notes that unlike the WD MyBook 3.0, the MyBook II doesn't have USB 3.0.
