We were right, says Idion

Johannesburg, 18 Mar 2004

Idion Technology Holdings CEO Nicolaas Vlok says selling Idion Solutions and investing in the group`s Orion product has proved to be the right decision.

Yesterday the group released a much healthier set of year-end results that showed the positive effect of disposing of the loss-making Idion Solutions, as well as a better performance from the sole subsidiary, US-based Vision Solutions.

Vlok says the figures not only show that selling the loss-maker was the correct decision, but also vindicate past statements that Idion is a company with a future.

In the past few years the group has invested heavily in Orion, its new multi-platform high availability product designed to ensure the availability of a company`s mission-critical applications and .

Essentially, it enables users to the functional availability of servers, data and applications across an enterprise, regardless of platform, supporting OS/400, Windows and Linux. Functions include data integration across disparate databases as well as managed application and server availability including multi-system co-ordinated fail-over and .

Alan Arnold, Vision Solutions president and chief operating officer, says the limited release of the iSeries and Windows components in September proved very successful and the components will be released for general availability next month.

The Linux component, which is in the limited release phase now, will be fully released in the third quarter of this year, while the Unix component, in testing now, will see limited release in the third quarter of this year and general availability in the first quarter of next year.

The product is expected to begin affecting revenue in the second half of this year.

Vlok says demand for Vision`s high availability solutions remains promising.

Driving the demand are regulatory factors such as the second Basel Capital Accord and the US`s Sarbanes-Oxley Act, all of which require that data be readily accessible.
