Web-fed digital printing with unrivalled productivity, flexibility

Oc'e VarioStream 7000 family combines reliability with latest technology
Johannesburg, 13 Dec 2002

Oc'e, the pioneer of innovative printing solutions, is unveiling a new fastest-in-class Web-fed printing system: the Oc'e VarioStream 7000. The product family comprises six speeds, from 180 to 600 A4 ppm in single mode, and up to 1 200 in twin mode. Combined with smart production-line control via the built-in UP^3I interface, the VarioStream 7000 delivers unrivalled productivity. The series also offers unique flexibility.

Users can upgrade their systems on site to respond to increasing print volumes. Investment protection couldn`t be simpler. The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 CX (Convergence) models are flexible digital presses that handle applications from traditionally separate fields - users need just one machine for publishing and transactional-type applications. In addition, every machine can print with MICR and Oc'e CustomTone: swapping the colour is a fast, simple process.

Since the end of September 2002, 30 VarioStream 7000 systems have been installed in productive operation around the world in a variety of market segments - banking, insurance, mailing, graphic arts and telecommunications. The VarioStream machines are meeting the tough challenges in these segments with the same rock-solid reliability as their Pagestream and Demandstream predecessors.

A pioneering development

The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 is a two-in-one solution for superb quality output in printing on demand (PoD) and cost-conscious transactional printing. Oc'e has engineered these systems to deliver answers to real-life concerns and challenges of customers who work in dataroom and publishing-type printing.

With their open architecture, the systems integrate into existing IT platforms and support virtually every standard PDL. Advanced hardware and technology (such as the latest SRA controller) give customers a future-proof investment. The systems feature the new UP^3I interface standard for smart communication between devices on the production line. As well as speeding up setup times, UP^3I is the basis for dynamic process control (eg dynamic perforating).

One machine for many applications - Oc'e VarioStream 7000 CX

The new Oc'e Vario-Stream 7000 systems can respond to the varied challenges of many different kinds of application - billing, personalised "push"-mail items and technical documentation, bound service manuals, high quality books or newspapers. The VarioStream CX models deliver zero-compromise ability to handle applications from every segment. CX stands for "convergence", showing that these are dedicated systems for a major market trend: the convergence of formerly separate transactional and PoD markets.

The best just got better

The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 features an array of innovations that take digital printing into the future. An enhanced fusing station provides even better toner bonding. The new pinless paper transport ensures reliable processing of any paper, lightweight included. There are also improvements to the toner feed system - higher throughput and larger toner bottles ensure top quality even with high-density coverage at maximum rated speed. The enhanced developer station and electrophotography deliver excellent quality at high speeds, and image stability in heavy-duty operation.

Flexibility in configuration, operation and upgrades

The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 can be flexibly configured to suit the user`s demand profile. There is a choice of paper feed: pinless or traditional pin-fed paper transport, and the systems handle resolutions of 240/300 and 600dpi. In single mode, the system prints between 180 to 600 A4 ppm. The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 Twin combines two simplex machines (both of which can be used as solo machines if required) and prints duplex in black-and-white at a rate of up to 1 200 A4 ppm. The Oc'e VarioStream 7000 Triplex adds a spot of colour - in this version the printing system turns out double-sided prints with Oc'e CustomTone on one side. Another contribution to flexibility is the patented Oc'e Quick Change Developer Station technology (QCDS). It simplifies the changeover from economical standard toner to Premium Toner and CustomTone, or special toner such as MICR. This enables users to run totally different kinds of job efficiently. Speeds, resolutions and additional colour are all field-upgradable.

The Oc'e Vario product family

The new Oc'e Vario product family comprises VarioPrint and VarioStream systems. "Vario" stands for variable input and output and emphasises the flexibility of the machines. The "VarioStream" product name designates Oc'e`s continuous feed printers (as opposed to VarioPrint for the cutsheet presses). All the systems are based on an open platform and can be driven by data streams from various sources, such as mainframes, minicomputers and client/server solutions. The Vario systems help people get their vital information on and off the information highway, both by accepting data from a variety of sources (variable input), and by putting this information onto paper or scanning it to file (variable output). Each system can be custom-configured with the user`s choice of processor, memory size, imaging quality and accessories. The Oc'e Vario product line-ups are a new unified platform combining the capabilities of the winning Pagestream (PoD) and Demandstream (transactional printing) families.
