Companies are faced with fundamental problems in their Web site management and publishing processes that can significantly hinder competitiveness and growth.
That`s according to June Julyan, product manager of , who says the problem is that every site update requires a developer. "For companies with hundreds of Web sites and hundreds (sometimes even thousands) of content providers, the situation is unmanageable," she says.
To address this market demand, has announced , an integrated component of its ViewDirect total content management (TCM) software suite. ViewDirect TCM is built on a highly scalable content repository that integrates and stores all the enterprise content that supports Web sites and business processes. Bateleur Software Solutions is the official South African representative of Mobius.
"This new version of ViewDirect Contenuity makes it easier than ever to develop and maintain dynamic, content-rich applications, including corporate intranets, customer-facing Web portals and integrated supply chain extranets," Julyan says.
ViewDirect Contenuity 5.1 delivers new capabilities that simplify, automate and speed the creation and maintenance of Internet, intranet or extranet Web sites by business users. It delivers Web site management, document management and digital asset management in a single easy-to-use platform fully integrated with all components of ViewDirect TCM.
"This product gives business managers and non-technical employees the ability to create, personalise, transform, manage and publish content. Web site development, implementation and support costs are reduced by eliminating the need for specialised technical skills and reducing the burden on IT staff," Julyan points out.
By automating the tedious, time-consuming tasks previously performed manually by highly skilled technical experts, sites can be built and deployed quickly and content can be kept up to date. In addition, a browser-based site builder allows non-technical staff to build sites without having to write any code. Content providers can then easily submit content and documents through a workflow approval process before the content appears on the Web site. ViewDirect Contenuity manages content from creation through presentation and eventual deletion and includes personalisation features that give each user an individual experience of the site.
ViewDirect Conentuity 5.1 is fully integrated with DocumentDirect for the Internet, the Web viewing component of ViewDirect TCM, giving users access to content in the ViewDirect TCM repository, while maintaining all security provisions. This integration enables the ViewDirect Contenuity user to manage and present documents in any format, including PCL, PostScript, PDF, XML, HTML, AFP, DJDE/Metacode, images, text, rich media, word processing, spreadsheets and more.
Additional features include:
* Streamlined content submission and management;
* A new graphical workflow module for mapping and managing the content approval process;
* A "content type generator" that makes it easy to define new content templates;
* A single function for backing up and restoring a site; and
* Enhanced facilities for managing documents that remain in their native format (eg Excel, PowerPoint).
"ViewDirect Contenuity eliminates the IT bottleneck and frees up IT resources by putting control of Web content directly in the hands of business users," Julyan says. "It reduces costs and improves productivity by minimising the resources needed at every stage of Web site development and maintenance. The features in ViewDirect Contenuity 5.1 streamline the process further and enhance integration with ViewDirect TCM."
