Insurance software developer Websoft Maven and Workgroup have announced an agreement to launch Maven`s new broker application, via their ASP delivery, using IBM U2`s UniVerse as the underlying database.
Universe, which is a multi-value database, differs from relational databases in that its method of storing data is much more flexible than the two-dimensional table associated with relational databases, where the relationships between data items are explicitly specified as equally accessible attributes.
Maven has chosen to utilise UniVerse for several reasons - most importantly because the company already has extensive experience in this environment and because IBM is continually enhancing the product in order to meet with the latest
IT trends and industry requirements.
Says Peter Roberts (Sales & Marketing Director) at Websoft Maven: "Personally I believe UniVerse to be one of the best databases in the industry today as it is very powerful and easy to use. The product is also very flexible and offers a very stable technology."
According to Jacqui Powell, U2 Business Unit manager at Workgroup, UniVerse will provide Maven with greater openness and accessibility to other standard database capabilities like XML, as well as easier integration, enhanced security through SSL, scalability and reliability.
"In addition it provides a rapid return on investment and presents a low cost of ownership," says Powell.
Says Roberts: "We are committed to delivering solutions to the insurance market for the long term, and ensuring that our underlying database fits that commitment is very important to us. UniVerse certainly provides the stability we need."
UniVerse is sold and supported internationally by IBM Software Division, and is distributed locally by Workgroup`s U2 Business Unit.
