
Western Europe sees strong sales
This is an increase of 0.2% in total compared to the same quarter in 2009, according to research compiled by GFK Retail and Technology.
IT sales demonstrated a positive increase of 4.7% for the fourth quarter, up 5%.
Sales of IT equipment were driven by business-to-business replacement purchases and digital lifestyle products and reached 45.7 billion euros for the full year, up 4.7% and 5.5% respectively, states Telecom Paper.
The telecoms market saw sales drop 1% in the fourth quarter of 2010, with full-year sales up 0.8%. Almost one-third of Western European telecoms sales were generated by smartphones, states GFK.
According to Warc, research firm Forrester found that online sales in Western Europe saw an 18% increase last year, and is expected to witness a 13% leap during 2011, after which, growth slows as "the market matures and buyer penetration begins to level off."
