White House to review IT projects
As part of its effort to improve IT project management across federal agencies, the US Office of Management and Budget will require that designated projects devise improvement plans and get executive backing, reports Information Week.
OMW Budget plans to review up to 30 high-risk federal IT projects as the next step in an ongoing process to identify and remediate troubled, big-ticket technology deployments.
Federal CIO Vivek Kundra says his office will work with agency CIOs to identify 25 to 30 IT projects across federal government that are deemed high risk and to conduct detailed reviews of those projects. Kundra estimates the total cost over the life of those projects, if allowed to proceed, to be $30 billion.
Tech giants build photovoltaic factory
Enel Green Power, Sharp and ST Microelectronics have signed a project financing agreement for 150 million euros for the development of what will be Italy's biggest photovoltaic panel factory, states PR Newswire.
The goal of the joint venture is to start operations at the Catania factory for the integrated production of innovative photovoltaic cells and panels.
Enel Green Power is developing renewable energy on an international scale and in project management. Sharp will deploy its thin-film technology and ST Microelectronics will be focusing on microelectronics.
Australia boosts project management training
The Australian Scholarship Foundation is supporting managers in non-profit organisations to attend a workshop for project management development, says Third Sector Magazine.
The workshop, being held on 20 August in Sydney, is designed to provide a practical framework and tools for not-for-profits to manage a range of projects within their organisation.
The workshop has been developed through a partnership between the Australian Scholarships Foundation and Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
