Whitehorse City Council selects AXS-One`s TransAXS procurement

Johannesburg, 30 Apr 2001

AXS-One, a global provider of e-business solutions, today announced that Whitehorse City Council, Australia, licensed in Q1 2001, AXS-One`s TransAXS Procurement solution as its first initiative to B2B online trading.

To facilitate this, a technology partnership has been put into place by the council with Exchange Solutions, which developed a marketplace, APPEX, that currently contains in excess of 400 national suppliers to local government. AXS-One provides the seamless integration between the market site and AXS-One`s eProcurement system that is linked directly to the council`s AXS-One financial software.

TransAXS Procurement will also enable access to other marketplaces like Ariba, Commerce One, MAPS, etc, and will provide access to possible future community-based portals created by AXS-One.

TransAXS Procurement is a full cycle procurement system that is extremely easy to use with a simple browser-based interface. It includes online requisitions, automatic approvals, tracking expense versus capital items, budget tracking and much more.

"Whitehorse City Council`s decision to go down the eProcurement path was driven by external and internal factors," said Aubrey Jansen, Supply Co-ordinator Purchasing and Tender Management. "Externally, consideration was given to the strong Federal/State Government initiative to encourage eProcurement at all levels of Government. Internally, council is focused on improving communications with external bodies such as customers and suppliers and eProcurement fits into this long-term strategy. TransAXS Procurement with its back end integration was considered the best fit for this council.

"The ability to communicate electronically with suppliers and contractors in the procurement process is an important first step in the eCommerce strategy of the Council. It gives us the link between our organisation and the Internet via a simple, easy to use browser-based application," continued Jansen.

"We can also import data concerning authorised users, organisational structures, spending limits, budgets and other fiscal control information directly into the system which is simple and intuitive, in fact, suitable for use by anyone in an organisation. Ultimately around 180 Whitehorse staff will have access to online procurement through this software.

"We do anticipate a significant reduction in purchasing and administration costs as well as an improvement in efficiency in the medium- to long0term," concluded Jansen.

"We are very pleased to extend our already long standing relationship with Whitehorse City Council into the eCommerce environment," commented Ossie Pisanu, Vice President, Asia Pacific, AXS-One, on the agreement. "Over and above the benefits of cost reduction, efficiencies and greater control of the online purchasing process this system enables the council to preserve the investment that they have already made in their existing infrastructure. It will also enable them to exploit the advantage of the Internet with preferred suppliers by creating the catalyst for their preferred suppliers to go online."
