The competition will see entrants narrowed down to the top eight fastest texters in the country who will attend the National Championship at the end of September.
The current world record is a 264-character sentence in just two minutes. Local prizes include R50 000, R20 000 and R10 000 and a Chatterbox Plus handset to the top three winners.
The first and second place contestants automatically qualify for the world championship, with a prize of US$ 100 000 being held in New York in January 2011.
