Widescreen notebooks herald advent of digital imaging

Johannesburg, 30 Mar 2004

Users are constantly demanding more from their existing notebooks. The need for crisp digital imaging without the hassle of cumbersome workstations places HP`s nx7000 wide-screen notebook in the perfect position to provide users with enhanced business efficiency.

Available from Tarsus Technologies, the nx7000 combines wide-screen features, Intel Centrino mobile technology, and increased battery life in a durable, lightweight design.

"In the past, imaging was a costly science that only a few people with high-end workstations could enjoy," says Andre Wollheim, HP product manager at Tarsus Technologies. "Now crystal-clear images consume far less space and even mobile computers have technology able to handle them with ease."

In particular, Wollheim refers to the HP nx7000 wide-screen notebook. The nx7000 enhances business efficiency by combining wide-screen features with Intel Centrino mobile technology to deliver unbeatable graphics along with a long battery life in a lightweight design.

The feature of the notebook that stands out is the 15.4-inch wide-screen display. Producing crisp images 20% brighter than standard panels, the display is the perfect vehicle for business documents and high-resolution images.

Wollheim relates the comments of a radiologist at Constantiaberg Clinic: "The nx7000 is perfect for viewing x-rays. Gone are the days when doctors use the old plastic-sheet x-rays, now they use incredibly high-resolution pictures on their notebooks and are able to enlarge the image and see the minute details that were previously impossible to spot with the naked eye."

Even for normal business users the nx7000 offers added functionality, such as the ability to view two documents side by side without reducing the size to microscopic proportions. Employees who need to write reports, for example, can do so with their research displayed on one side of the screen while the writing occurs on the other side - there is no need for tabbing to another window or printing out documents for convenient use.

"The sterling graphics performance is assisted by an AGP Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics controller with 64 MB DDR SDRAM," adds Wollheim. "And connectivity is enhanced by the integrated Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 to provide clear connections across 802.11b networks."

The nx7000 is a complete business notebook with wireless technology and more than enough horsepower under the hood to meet the conventional needs of mobile workers. "Its real differentiator is the wide-screen display that provides additional functionality and the space to organise your virtual desktop the way you like it, as well as to display and work with high-resolution images directly from your mobile workstation," Wollheim concludes.
