Namibia Breweries has chosen to implement a computerised system expressly to better control time and attendance and productivity of staff at its various facilities.

Alan Barry, general manager at Kronos SA, says the installation of Kronos` time and attendance system is scheduled to go live around the end of January 1998. "It is being implemented by our recently appointed Namibian distributor, Comacc, and represents that company`s first success with Kronos products," he says.

Kronos product manager at Comacc, Ettienne Labuschagne, concurs and says the company is busy installing the client server version of Kronos time accounting and management systems called TKC/S into the breweries. "This is also the first system of its kind in this country," he says, "and we have specifically brought out an implementation expert from the US to ensure the project runs smoothly."

According to Anton Grov', personnel administration manager at Namibia Breweries, the company started out looking for a human resources management system. "We currently process over a thousand time cards a month manually and this can increase the chance of human error as well as being very time consuming," he says.

"When we looked at Kronos [Time and Attendance system] and realised that it would post directly into our payroll system, automatically calculate overtime and hours worked, we were sold," he says.

Labuschagne points out that the time and attendance system interfaces directly with the breweries` SAP R/3 financial applications suite. "This enables the company to better manage human resources and more effectively monitor staff productivity," he concludes.
