Windows 7 offers desktop virtualisation
Microsoft Windows 7 brings new levels of virtualisation to the desktop, says ITWire.
This includes natively booting from virtual hard disks and XP Mode. Both open new possibilities for enterprise deployments and software distribution.
Microsoft has previously offered virtualisation products in the form of Virtual PC and Virtual Server, albeit with limitations.
Dell boosts enterprise virtualisation portfolio
Dell has introduced a number of business products and services that are designed to bring more efficiency to tasks such as deploying virtualisation or setting up a data centre, states ZDNet.
The new products include ready-to-use virtualisation systems, and servers and storage products. A consulting service called ProConsult has also been unveiled.
For virtualisation deployments, Dell announced two pre-configured packages of servers, storage and connection technology: one for data centres and the other for small and medium-sized businesses.
Red Hat tests virtualisation products
Open Source vendor Red Hat has announced its enterprise virtualisation portfolio of products has moved into beta and is on track for final delivery later this year, reports CBR Online.
The move comes as a part of the company's strategy to offer services to expand the scope and market reach of its virtualisation and cloud technologies.
Earlier this year, the company announced its plans to deliver enterprise virtualisation portfolio featuring server, client and management products to enable adoption of virtualisation across the enterprise.
