Windows Server 2000 support ends

Users of Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2000 will no longer receive product support from Microsoft after 13 July, reports PC World.

This means users will no longer receive operating system updates via Windows Update, including drivers and patches for protecting against viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

This comes after Microsoft also ceased product support for all versions of Windows Vista without any service packs on 13 April.

Dell lands gaming server deal

Dell revealed at this week's E3 Expo that it is backing up the release of OnLive, an online gaming system that lets users play games over a link from within a Web browser, states The Register.

The OnLive cloud gaming system has been in development for eight years and has been built to run console-based games on servers.

This is not Dell's first online gaming server partner; it has a few online gaming companies in China, Korea and the US that have bespoke servers.

Sybase boosts servers for developers

Sybase has updated its Advantage Database Server with a host of features designed to improve performance and appeal to developers, says eWeek.

Sybase has targeted developers with enhancements designed to help Delphi and Visual FoxPro developers leverage the latest Delphi 2010 and Visual Studio 2010 tools and deploy 64-bit platforms.

The company has also included support for Unicode to help organisations localise applications for international markets.
