electricity being developed at present will allow homes and businesses to power all appliances from a single source, writes Fair Home.

Toshiba boosts netbook storage

Toshiba hasn't exactly been on the cutting-edge of the Netbook phenomenon, but the Japanese company is taking the lead in moving solid-state drive storage in these tiny laptops to the next level, writes CNet.

Toshiba is adding a 64GB solid-state drive to its NB100 Netbook offering, in addition to the current 160GB hard disk drive option.

AMD rebrands Fusion

One of the little-noticed announcements made at the past CES was the unveiling of AMD's "Fusion" rebranding, whereby the chipmaker has attempted to distil the fading remnants of the “CPU + GPU” hype leftover from its ATI merger, and elevate it into a grand vision of the future of computing in the multicore era, states Ars Technica.

This major rebranding, which portrays heterogeneous multiprocessing as a kind of spiritual ideal, has actually been on the 2009 roadmap since at least 2006.

But in this time of cutbacks and tanking semiconductor revenue, the launch of such a massive online PR blitz seems a bit like an exercise in porcine cosmetology. And maybe it is... or, the company could be onto something.
