Woolworths adopts self-service
Woolworths UK has launched self-service 'stock checker': its IT team built a shared service software solution to check availability of products both in-store and at its central fulfilment warehouses, reports Food Week.
Episys, an IT solutions and services company, was chosen to integrate this to colleague-operated mobile devices in all its stores, and self-service units in 98 stores.
Customers can now confirm product availability either by asking a store colleague or by serving themselves at a stock checker or customer service kiosk.
Source Technologies, Direct Source
Source Technologies and Direct Source have announced a partnership to provide tier-1 retailers with new interactive self-service kiosks, says Kiosk Marketplace
The new kiosks and modular customer applications are being showcased at the National Retail Federation Convention & Expo, in New York this week.
"The retail industry is rapidly developing a need for self-service technology beyond price-checking and self-checkout," said William Bouverie, chief executive of Source Technologies.
Library gets self-service system
The Three Creeks Community Library is the first branch in the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District to receive the latest radio frequency identification technology (RFID), states Trading Markets.
Materials at the Three Creeks Community Library now have a high-frequency RFID chip that helps to streamline the checkout process, reduce waiting times, improve cataloguing procedures and increase the security of materials.
The Apex XpressCheck patron self-service kiosks are reducing the amount of time patrons have to wait in check-out lines, and the real-time check in with the Vista Book Drop keeps patrons from waiting for staff members to check items back in before they can check out new items.
