Woolworths, one of the largest retailers in South Africa, has installed both an EPSON Proofer 9000 and EPSON Pro 7000 to assist its in-house computer aided design department with the production of design development material.
"Woolworths depends upon an internal creative team for the production of its in-house concepts for textiles and visual merchandising," says Martin Reeves, computer aided design manager at Woolworths. "To uphold a consistent design style across the entire marketing line, projects are assigned on a per-product basis, and rapid turnaround is crucial to meet production deadlines."
"Both these proofers have proved to be the ideal for our team, and consistently deliver accurate output, with little to no maintenance on our part," adds Reeves. "We deal with a lot of concept work and it is crucial that we provide key decision-makers with accurate colour proofs." Reeves says that the EPSON Pro 9000 and Pro 7000 are capable of producing astonishing prints at some of the fastest print speeds in the industry.
One of the advantages of these printers is that they feature the EPSON Micro Piezo dual density droplet print technology, adds Yvette Havemann, marketing co-ordinator at Epson South Africa. "This consists of several key elements, including a 1440 x 720 dpi resolution, a precise and consistent dot size, and an innovative six-colour, high capacity, quick drying ink system."
She goes on to say that the quick-dry ink system results in an extended tonal range by adding light cyan and light magenta to the standard colour palette of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. "The light and full density inks combined, create unsurpassed levels of smoothness and clarity in al prints. This is extremely valuable when we re-colour of design textile prints," she states.
Tim Finch, sales and marketing director of Colour Corporate, official distributors and service providers of the EPSON graphic, art and colour range locally, the EPSON Proofer 9000 and 7000 have met a demand in the Woolworths in-house design centre to product photo-quality output with fast print speeds. "An additional benefit, is that they are designed to handle paper up to 44 inches wide on media as thick as 1.5 mm cardboard," he says.
"Moreover, EPSON`s array of professional media ensures the best possible output quality from these proofers. Standard paper types include photo glossy paper, photo semi-glossy paper, semi-glossy heavyweight paper, presentation matte, blacklight film and 1.5 mm poster board," he concludes.
