Local distribution company Workgroup has announced a distribution agreement with EMC, whereby Workgroup will assist in growing EMC's commercial and SMB business within the channel.
The agreement encompasses EMC's Clariion, Enterprise Software and entry-level Insignia products.
This extended move to market will amplify the EMC delivery channel as Workgroup, with South African offices in Midrand, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Durban, offers a defined reach extending to various corners of Africa, which will assist EMC in marketing its products into South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
John Howell, general manager: storage and security at Workgroup, says that with the broad range of solutions offered by EMC, it makes sense to facilitate access to these products via Workgroup's established presence around the country and its experience in delivering such.
Over the past three years, EMC has acquired 21 companies, aimed at strengthening EMC's position as the premium information infrastructure supplier. EMC has backed this acquisition programme with a strong commitment to research and development. This has resulted in EMC becoming the world leader in information management and storage.
"Being appointed an official EMC distributor means a great deal to our customers and to us," says Howell. "Cost and ease of use are the two key concerns for business today and EMC's set of storage solutions are designed and priced for discerning customers, while still providing high performance technology for today's on-demand networked storage environments.
"We want to stay ahead of the competition and Workgroup views EMC as instrumental in its continuing success. The EMC portfolio complements our existing portfolio in the marketplace and presents an additional value proposition to our customers."
Unter Arusan, AMESA distribution manager at EMC, concurs, stating that a major reason for the appointment was the fact that Workgroup's partners and product offerings were so complementary to the EMC offering.
"EMC sees Workgroup's product offering as highly complementary to its current portfolio and will be working closely with approved EMC partners to target the commercial sector of the market with the EMC Clariion, Enterprise Software and entry-level Insignia product line," she says.
Arusan says Workgroup's track record with the VMware product (VMware is an EMC company) inspired the decision to form a partnership. "We believe that these results are attributable to Workgroup's commitment to the product and its relationships with its channel partners and hope to see similar success with the EMC range of products.
"The appointment of Workgroup represents a step forward in the distribution of EMC products in southern Africa," she adds. "Their broad representation, extensive customer base and complementary product sets are a natural fit to drive the expansion of EMC in this area."
