World Cup boosts 3D network demand
The International Datacasting Corporation (IDC) has unveiled a series of orders for its 3D live solution, reports Market Watch.
The release coincides with the 2010 World Cup in SA, with high demand for the IDC's Superflex SFX4104 Pro Video with integrated Sensio 3D decoding which delivers into digital cinema enabled theatres.
"We are excited about this group of orders and the growing demand for the high-definition, high-quality, live 3D theatrical experience," says Frederick Godard, IDC president and CEO. "The Fifa World Cup is having a significant impact on the demand for IDC's 3D products as service providers rush to prepare for broadcasting all the excitement from SA in 3D.”
Cybercom intros real-time mobile broadcasting
Swedish IT consultancy company Cybercom has developed a solution to view real-time feeds from mobile phones, states TMCnet.
The mobile phones are transformed from terminals into servers that allow a designated Web site to connect and display video as it's recorded.
The solution will debut at the Lund Carnival in Sweden.
ABC HD broadcasting on hold
The ABC has indicated that programmes on ABC1 will no longer be shown in high-definition (HD), says The Spy Report.
The decision was based on the need to make room for a round-the-clock news channel: ABC News 24.
Once the digital switchover is completed in 2013, a review will take place regarding the broadcaster's commitments to SD and HD programming.
