World Online now offers over 500 online training courses

Johannesburg, 08 May 2001

One can now do the MCSE certification course for under R500 through the World Academy e-Learning service from VodacomWorld Online. There are currently more than 500 training courses available over the Internet through academy.worldonline.co.za.

"The Web-based training courses allow business and home users to choose where and when to study and all this at a considerable financial saving," explains World Online Manager B2B and eCommerce Odette Meredith.

Each course is divided into two areas, technical and end-user courses. Students are given a username and password and are able to access pre-registered courses for a specific subscription period. They can choose to have access to all the courses available within a selected time frame, and can complete as many courses as they want within that period.

"Students can also stop anywhere, any time, and the next time they access the service they will be taken right to the place they left off," she adds.

Technical courses include MCSE, CNE, MOUS, CCNA, CNE and A+, database concepts and programming modules like Java, C++ and HTML. End-user courses such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Office 2000, PowerPoint, Excel and Lotus Notes are available. Other courses cover End-User Home packages such as Estate Planning, QuickBooks, Math Skills.

"A growing number of companies are finding that the Internet is the best delivery tool for courses aimed at broadening staff skills. Some corporates are even rolling out home PC`s to their employees in support of furthering their education," says Meredith.

"Meredith believes the Internet has played an important part in the growth and widespread acceptance of e-Learning. "This type of web-based training can be accessed anywhere, anytime. It is self-paced and provides the user with significant cost benefits. Typically, the cost benefit compared to a traditional classroom environment can be as little as one fifth of the price."

"As a member of the Microsoft Independent Courseware Vendor (ICV) program the courses conform to strict course development standards to ensure quality content and training," she adds.

On completion of, for example the MCSE course, students will have the opportunity to write any of the formal exams associated with that specific course. Certain courses such as QuickBooks, Word and PowerPoint do not require exams to be written, but you will have a good working knowledge of the product on completion of the course.
