World Online has launched an all-encompassing course for aspirant Web designers. Covering all aspects of Web design, from planning of the site to design and publishing on the Web, the online course can be accessed at the World Academy in the Services section of the
www.worldonline.co.za
portal.
"You do not have to know everything about Web design to build an effective and interesting Web site," says World Online portal manager, Natalie Thayer.
"With minimum Internet knowledge, beginners can design an efficient Internet site in a short period of time. World Online`s Web design course will give learners the resources and step-by-step instructions they need to design their own complete business or personal Web sites."
The course is aimed at people who want to build a site from scratch or re-design an existing site. "It will help learners deliver Web content in a more interesting, accessible, and visually exciting way," adds Thayer. "For those who are thinking of starting an online business or just setting up a personal Web site, the ability to design a Web site is the first step toward reaching that goal."
Thayer says learners will learn to plan and develop well-designed Web sites that combine effective navigation with the balanced use of graphics, text and colour. The course will also teach them to create Web sites that let users access information easily and quickly, regardless of browser type, connection speed, or computing platform.
Thayer notes that understanding the medium is an important first step to hands-on experience, and stresses that the course is not designed for people who are experts in HTML code. It explains the HTML features that relate to Web accessibility, and covers the nuts and bolts of basic HTML, with detailed examples of formatting text, adding graphic elements, making links, creating tables and frames, and using colour on the Web. It also explains how the Web and Web pages work.
Learners will be taken through the following steps as they build their first Web sites:
. setting up a Web site
. designing page layout
. using tables to present content
. using frames
. inserting media such as Shockwave and Flash
. editing HTML
. using behaviours
. debugging JavaScript code
. creating forms
. testing and publishing a site
Thayer confirms the Web design course is one of several training courses offered by the local ISP.
"We wanted to offer a range of cost-effective and convenient courses to World Online subscribers and visitors. The courses we provide in conjunction with our partners focus on quality content, interaction, graphics, and interspersed questions, and make learning fun, interesting, and effective."
