World`s most versatile notebook gets faster

Johannesburg, 29 Jul 2002

African Gateway Connection, distributor of mobile PCs, has announced the release of the 867MHz CPU for their Transmeta powered PaceBlade. The PaceBlade is an entirely new concept in mobile computing, combining the functions of a notebook with a tablet PC that features a detachable keyboard, handwriting recognition and a display that can be viewed in portrait or landscape.

"The Transmeta CPU, known as the Crusoe, is a high-performance processor and well suited to the mobile platform due to its extremely low power consumption", says Carl Roode, GM of African Gateway Connection. "This fact allows PaceBlade users to operate on battery power for up to five hours, depending on their usage," he adds.

The 867MHz Transmeta processor might seem relatively slow when compared to other makes of processors, it has however, been purposely designed for mobile use and features advanced power saving technology that can actually adjust the speed of the CPU on the fly, thereby reducing it power consumption.

The high-performance Crusoe processor consumes 60 to 70 percent less power and runs much cooler than competing chips, by transferring the most complex part of a processor`s job to software in a process called Code Morphing, it enables a battery charge to last twice as long.

Roode emphasises that the PaceBlade is not designed as a gaming PC or desktop replacement system, but has been designed for highly mobile users. "The PaceBlade, combines all the features of a notebook combined with the flexibility and convenience of a palmtop, he says"

In addition to a battery life not found on conventional notebooks, the PaceBlade also acts as a tablet-pc which uses a stylus on a touch sensitive screen as well as hand-writing recognition. "The PaceBlade design has been well thought out and has received recognition for it`s well crafted and robust design by internationally acclaimed technology critic, Toms Hardware," concludes Roode.
