HP is the fastest growing Ethernet switch vendor for Q3 2002, according to research results from the Dell`Oro Group. (1)
The report, which examines the Ethernet switch market, reveals that the HP ProCurve networking business grew at a rate of 49% in terms of total layer 2 through layer 7 port shipments, outpacing competitors Cisco and 3Com as well as the market itself from Q3 2001 to Q3 2002. The Ethernet switch market as a whole grew 29%.
The report also said that HP ProCurve grew 11% in total layer 2 switch ports shipped, and grew from 4.6% to 11.6% market share in total layer 3 modular ports shipped.
The report also said that from Q2 2002 to Q3 2002, HP ProCurve Networking grew at 17%, nearly twice the overall switch market rate.
HP ProCurve grew 179% from Q2` 2002 to Q3` 2002 in total layer 3 modular ports shipped, moving from 4% to 11.6% market share.

According to Louis Helmbold, HP SA ProCurve networking business product manager, while statistics stated in the report are based on international figures, HP has seen the same type of growth in the local SA market. "Local CIOs want to spend their scarce IT rands more wisely. This product gives companies good value for money with a high level of security."
