The ability to communicate clearly in writing is one of the most important skills to master. Good writing skills help to get your ideas across effectively and to get the results you want in your business and personal life.
There is no mystery to good writing - the good news is that professional writing skills can be learned.
Faculty Training Institute (FTI) will run its popular two-day Professional Business Writing Skills course, on 24 July in Cape Town, and 5 September in Johannesburg. The intensive and highly practical training course will help delegates to acquire the skills and techniques needed for successful written communication.
Information that is important to an organisation, its customers and suppliers is usually communicated in writing: from letters, faxes and e-mails, to reports, policy documents and contracts. The quality of these documents can have a significant impact on business performance - information that is clearly, concisely and accurately communicated saves time, reduces potential misunderstanding and ensures that business decisions are correctly made and implemented. Unfortunately, the converse is also true. Poor quality documents frequently translate into lost time, lost customers or lost income.
According to Simon Hill, FTI lecturer of Professional Business Writing Skills: "The proliferation of social platforms upon which people communicate has seen an increase in the casual styles in written communication, and does not lend itself to business documentation. In written communiqu'es, information must be structured logically and presented using language that can be easily understood; at the same time, hostility, scepticism or unrealistic expectation on the part of the reader must be avoided."
Practical exercises in the course will instil confidence and develop appropriate attitudes that underpin successful communication between writer and reader.
The course has wide appeal. Typical delegates include management and administrative staff from a variety of functional areas within an organisation. Some prior experience of business writing is expected, and delegates should be comfortable communicating in English. Any business professional whose job includes the writing of internal or external documents will benefit from this comprehensive, practical and easy-to-grasp training course based on well-established principles.
