Wyse thin client deployment reduces Hollard service by up to 40%

Johannesburg, 21 Aug 2001

"Hollard Life Assurance Group Limited recently deployed Wyse Windows-based Winterm Terminals and has since reported a reduction of up to 40% on their service calls. Since thin client computing removes the complexity of running local applications on the desktop, the solution allowed Hollard to achieve this reduction in service calls," says Nico Malherbe, financial and marketing director for IT Wise, sole distributor for Wyse Technology.

According to Hollard`s group IT manager, Ian Bleach, the organisation made a strategic decision to implement a Citrix Server-Based Computing solution, which delivers a simple cost-effective user-interface. He also commented that since the implementation of Wyse thin clients, a predictable desktop cost of ownership is being experienced.

"Our organisation made a strategic business decision to implement Citrix Server-Based Computing Software in conjunction with Wyse Windows-Based Terminals to deliver our business-critical applications across the enterprise, on the Web and local networks. Due to the centralised application delivery and management capability of this solution, we are able to offer a more predictable Quality of Service (QoS) in terms of scalability, reliability, performance, user experience and cost," says Bleach.

Explains OAS sales manager, Lincoln Fourie, Business Partner for Wyse: "Hollard opted for the Wyse thin client solution, as it offered them superior thin client management features. Through the Wyse Winterm and Citrix MetaFrame solutions they have achieved a lower, more predictable operating cost, offering a better return on infrastructure. Furthermore, users experienced increased performance levels of applications on wide area network links."

"Wyse 3200LE Windows-based terminals were installed at Hollard`s IT Call Centre in Randburg and at its various branches nationwide. Further installations included 150 Citrix MetaFrame ICA users with servers operating on Windows 2000. These users are expected to grow to approximately 300," states Malherbe.

"Since the reduction of service calls, it now enables Hollard the time to strategically manage our business focus with increased productivity. Hollard is expecting to roll-out the thin client solution throughout its entire branch network and the project is expected to be completed at the end of this year," concludes Bleach.
