X-PLOR secures R 6-m contract from MTN

A new company has been formed to produce products for fixed and cellular network quality measurement.

X-PLOR is a joint venture between BSW and Instrumach Telecoms. It will have bases in South Africa, the UK, the US, Europe and Australia.

X-PLOR marketing director, Grant Salmon, says the company has secured a R 6-million order from MTN to monitor the company`s cellular network in South Africa.

In addition, a significant amount of international interest has been shown in its locally designed and developed products and software management systems which, says Salmon, are currently unique in the marketplace.

X-PLOR`s service is achieved through the use of remotely controlled mobile or static automatic network testers (ANTs) that make calls to one another across the network. The calls are then analysed by sophisticated software for voice quality, metering and bill accuracy, performance (signal strength, dropped calls) and other criteria.

Salmon says the system is capable of giving cellular network operators a comprehensive picture of their network infrastructures.

"Network operators can now identify problem areas and therefore proactively optimise service levels," adds Salmon. "They are no longer dependant on customer feed-back for this critical information."
