Xerox entry-level Phaser packs potent productivity

Johannesburg, 16 Feb 2010

Xerox has launched a compact, affordable monochrome laser printer, the Phaser 3140.

The new printer produces 18 A4 pages per minute and offers high-quality output, reliable operations and a powerful feature set to make it a strong choice for small businesses, home offices and personal use. The new model is available immediately.

“The Phaser 3140 provides all-purpose printing at an affordable price,” says Ernest Leong, product manager at the office systems group at Bytes Document Solutions, authorised Xerox distributor to 27 sub-Saharan countries. “It raises the bar on what you can expect from an entry-level printer.”

The new Phaser has a best-in-class monthly duty cycle of 10 000 prints to handle daily printing chores in business settings, yet it is well suited as a personal printer, with low noise levels and a compact footprint of 360 x 389mm to fit comfortably on desktops.

The new model's compact size is enabled in part by a fully enclosed paper tray that keeps paper dust-free and provides a best-in-class capacity of 250 sheets, boosting productivity by limiting interruptions to reload paper.

A second multi-purpose tray feeds special sizes and media. First-print-out time is as fast as eight seconds. Image resolution is a crisp 600x600 dpi and up to 1200x600 dpi with software enhancements.

The new model is easy to set up, maintain and operate in Windows, Mac and Linux environments. Connectivity is via a USB 2.0-compabible port. The system has a 150MHz processor and 8MB of on-board memory and offers a choice of toner cartridges. High capacity cartridges yield 2 500 pages, and standard-capacity cartridges yield 1 500 pages.

The Phaser 3140 is Energy Star-compliant. Its consumables are part of Xerox's Green World Alliance, a worldwide initiative to encourage Xerox customers to recycle or dispose of supplies in a manner that minimises impact on the environment. The unit comes with a one-year warranty.
