Xerox South Africa is set to strengthen its leadership in the publishing and printing industry and further stifle the competition with the introduction of the DocuTech 6115 Production Publisher, which is 5 percent faster than competing products, and reducing the price of the DocuTech 6100 Production Publisher by 10 percent. Both the DocuTech 6115 and the DocuTech 6100 offer better , quality and cost than the closest comparable products.

The DocuTech 6115 Production Publisher joins the Xerox DocuTech 2000 Series, a line of award-winning, high-volume, digital black-and-white sheet-fed printers. With more than 25,000 printers installed worldwide, the DocuTech 2000 family (DocuTech 65, 6100, 6135, 6155 and 6180) has already proven itself a winner in the marketplace.

Offering speeds of 115 pages-per-minute (ppm) at 600 dpi, the DocuTech 6115 fills the speed, production and price space between the DocuTech 6100 and the DocuTech 6135. The modular, upgradeable printer also provides tighter front-to-back registration than competing products, significantly improving image quality.

"The DocuTech 6115 printer is the best choice for growing businesses that want the reliability and power of a reputable production publishing system at a highly competitive cost of ownership," said Paul Haglich, product manager, Xerox South Africa. " We now have a comprehensive range of print speed choices, from 65 to 180 pages per minute, to suite the broad requirements of the production publishing & printing marketplace."

The new printer is configured much like the rest of the DocuTech 2000 Series, and it supports Windows 95/98, Windows NT, Mac OS applications, Adobe PostScript, HP-PCL, TIFF and ASCII applications and formats.

DocuTech Upgrades

The modular design of the DocuTech 2000 family, including the DocuTech 6115, makes it possible to perform on-site speed upgrades and add DigiPath 2.0 , Sun hardware with DocuSP, and a 65-ppm scanner. Optional add-ons include high-capacity stackers holding up to 10,000 sheets, a stitcher, and a tape binder. The DocuTech 6115 provides a clear migration path into the digital world by offering features for print on demand, 1:1 marketing and distribute then print, and is supported by DigiPath, the industry-leading software solution for managing digital documents and converting hardcopy documents to digital.

"Because of its versatility, the DocuTech 2000 Series, with the addition of the 6115, offers a range of products suitable for companies just entering the industry or those building on existing digital imaging technology," said Charlie Corr, group director, CAP Ventures Inc (a leading USA-based industry consultant). "Xerox customers can easily and effectively upgrade within the product line when their needs change. This is a unique benefit to those companies who are growing their print-on-demand business."

The Xerox DocuTech 2000 Series was launched this year to serve as the foundation for industry-specific solutions in digital publishing`s rapid growth areas - customized printing, print-on-demand, and documents that share distribution with electronic media such as the Web and CDs. The product line addresses a market opportunity that is expected to generate about $8 billion in retail value and reach more than 1 trillion black-and-white pages this year, from 734 billion in 1998, according to CAP Ventures Inc.
