Continuing its drive to deliver higher value to office customers, Xerox South Africa today unveiled a multifunctional printer/copier system that offers productivity features usually found only in more expensive, complex models.
The Xerox WorkCentre Pro 420 printer/copier builds upon other recently announced WorkCentre Pro models. It adds money- and time-saving capabilities such as two-sided printing and electronic pre-collation, where documents sets are electronically sorted and ordered before printing. The new entry is the latest in a series of WorkCentre Pro products especially designed to suit offices in developing markets.
"The WorkCentre Pro 420 is a `no compromise` system for today`s office with very affordable equipment and operating costs," explained Kaz Herchold, vice-president of the Office Group within the Developing Markets Operations of Xerox Corporation. "With robust workgroup printing and copying features - and a rugged design to withstand challenging environments - this device delivers benchmark efficiency and reliability."
With its many features, the WorkCentre Pro 420 - which produces one-sided documents at 20 pages per minute (ppm) and two-sided documents at 11ppm - can consolidate all printing and copying traffic on a single device, helping customers to significantly reduce their overall document costs. The design allows office customers to eliminate "clusters" of small, desktop devices - such as inkjet printers - that are inexpensive to purchase but expensive to operate.
"Xerox estimates that many of our customers around the world have achieved cost savings and productivity increases of between 10% and 20%, largely by replacing smaller single-function machines with fewer, higher volume multifunction systems," said Mehmet Sezer, Marketing Director Xerox South Africa. "Products such as the WorkCentre Pro 420 can help deliver savings like these here in SA through lower operating costs and equipment prices."
Manages network printing and copying
The WorkCentre Pro 420 is designed for office workgroups producing average volumes of up to 15 000 pages per month. Its network printing capabilities can surpass leading competitive products in its class. For example, the unit handles A3 or 11- by 17-inch paper while rival printers typically work with a maximum paper size of A4 or 8.5- by 11-inch. This means that companies don`t need separate machines to print larger format documents such as financial reports.
The WorkCentre Pro 420 produces high-quality output at resolutions up to 600 by 1800 dots per inch with 256 shades of grayscale. It supports the leading operating systems and network environments. While serving as a state-of-the-art network printer, the latest WorkCentre Pro model also provides convenience-copying features necessary to support busy workgroups, such as A3 or 11- by 17-inch size copying. It includes a 50-sheet document feeder and an offset catch tray. It has a total paper capacity of up to 1 050 sheets in two 500-sheet cassettes and a 50-sheet bypass tray. It offers zoom reduction/enlargement ratios that range from 50% to 200% with adjustable pre-sets.
In addition to the WorkCentre Pro 420, SA has launched the following office document systems within the last 18 months: WorkCentre Pro 315, WorkCentre Pro 320, WorkCentre Pro 412, WorkCentre Pro 423 and WorkCentre Pro 428.

The WorkCentre Pro 420 is available in April in SA. It is being sold by the company`s direct sales representatives and by authorised Xerox resellers.
