While SA`s advertising industry was partying the night away after the recent Loerie Awards at Sun City, a small team from Xerox SA was working behind the scenes, printing 22 000 A3 images to ensure that all attendees at the ceremony could wake up the following morning to a newspaper full of the weekend`s happenings.
Duncan Reid, technical trainer colour for Xerox SA, explains that the organisers of the Loeries approached Xerox to do the printing for the ceremony`s official newspaper, which was put together by Desklink, a special projects company.
For the project, Xerox used its 2060 printer, a high-end machine which prints up to 60 A4 images per minute in full colour.
Reid says the team worked from throughout the night to produce the A3 double sided, 10-sheet publication which, upon completion, was dropped off at strategic points around Sun City so that when all the guests awoke the following morning, they could "read all about it".
An updated newspaper was produced for each of the three nights of the awards, with each having a print run of 800.
"Because of the sensitivity of the information, all of us had to work in a secure room," says Reid. "In return for the printing of the newspaper, Xerox SA had other products on display outside for demonstration purposes."
He adds that Xerox was also able to assist an American visitor who was giving a presentation on one of the evenings. She had done her presentation on an Apple Macintosh, a platform which the business centre at Sun City is not equipped to deal with. So the Xerox team stepped in to help her with the printing of her speech, and got a special mention as a reward!
