Xerox secures printing contract in Lesotho

First major contract for Xerox in Lesotho
Johannesburg, 13 Aug 2002

Xerox South Africa`s African Division has secured its first major printing contract in Lesotho by signing a deal with the Lesotho Department of Education (DOE) to print the exam papers for the department.

The contract secured by Xerox`s dealer in Lesotho, Maseru Business Machines, will see the implementation of a Xerox DocuTech 6135 with DigiPath and backup machines.

"The Lesotho DOE previously outsourced its printing to another supplier, which made it vulnerable to potential leaks," comments Talang Takane, general manager of Maseru Business Machines. "With the new equipment implemented on their premises, the Lesotho DOE is ensured of a closed-loop printing solution, capable of delivering in the printing needs at a very low cost."

Xerox implemented a DocuTech 6135 printer on the Lesotho DOE`s premises, incorporating Xerox`s DigiPath software. The DigiPath software will ensure that the exam papers are submitted directly to the Xerox printing network, with minimal human intervention. Although the entire process is outsourced to Xerox, the exam papers never leave the department`s premises until the time of the exams.

"The DocuTech 6135 delivers 135 pages per minute and is capable of printing, tape binding (glue-bind) and stapling the exam papers together before being packed securely before leaving the department," says Tobie Kirkham, printing systems manager for Xerox`s indirect channel. "We are seeing more uptake of high-end printing solutions in the African market and the Lesotho deal opens many doors in demonstrating the printing solutions we can offer in Africa."
