Locally manufactured Xylo PCs, produced by SDD's ISO 9002 assembly line in Midrand, have been selected by the GT11 government education tender. According to Mark Forbes, brand manager for Xylo at SDD, Xylo was one of only two brands to have successfully passed the stringent testing of the tender process.
"Xylo has been selected on the basis of its past history with the government - the machines have been used by various departments in the past with minimal problems," he states.
Forbes says that the machines supplied are predominantly Pentium 4-based, but that a number of Pentium 3 machines have also been ordered. "The Xylo Pentium4 machines have been very well received by the market, and is one of the biggest Pentium 4 sellers in the country at present," he adds.
Forbes says the GT11 tender is part of a government initiative to make technology available to more children at school level. "Ideally, the government hopes to bring access to technology to the estimated 70% of our population that are totally isolated from computers," he concludes.
