Yahoo strikes gold in Taiwan
Search engine giant Yahoo will offer e-billing services via its Yahoo e-mail, to the three major Taiwanese telecoms carriers, reports DigiTimes Systems.
Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone Telecommunications have a total of 35 million subscribers, of which only about 10% use electronic billing. The three companies use as many as 756 million sheets of paper a year, accounting for 58.6% of all paper billing sent in Taiwan.
Yahoo had 20 million electronic billing e-mail accounts in Taiwan in May 2009; three times the volume a year earlier, according to the company.
Turkish telco honoured for green initiative
Turkey's telecoms operator, T"urk Telekom, has been hailed for its E-Fatura Forests project, which drives environmental awareness through e-billing, says Today's Zaman.
The Chartered Institute of Public Relations awarded the company with its excellence award in the category of Corporate and Business Communications.
T"urk Telekom successfully lobbied the government to allow the use of online billing instead of sending out paper documents to its subscribers, with the aim of saving forests, slashing costs and planting trees with the saved resources.
US hospitals suffer e-billing setbacks
Electronic billing problems have threatened to close four of Chicago's city-run mental health centres, however according to the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS), the problems have been partially resolved, states Chi Town Daily News.
However, DHS spokesman, Tom Green, says the city is still not billing for 100% of its mental health services.
The city, which used a new electronic billing system that was incompatible with the state's, could not submit reimbursement requests for several months. It's predicted that this will further threaten the department's already ailing budget.
