Young children increasingly using mobile devices

Technolog reports.

During a "typical" day, 11% of those young ones use a cellphone or other mobile device for "media consumption", spending an average of 43 minutes with them.

Computers are also widely used, reports Trends, with 22% of five- to eight-year-olds using one at least once a day, and 46% at least once a week.

In a typical day, the study found, 47% of babies aged between 0 and one watch television or DVDs, and of those, an average of almost two hours is spent doing so.

The survey is the first to look at how much kids, from birth to age eight, use the newest and increasingly popular forms of media technology, Ventura County Star writes.

About 1 400 parents completed the surveys in May and June. The surveys were done online, and parents who did not have access were given a notebook computer and a dial-up connection for the study.
