Zeneca, a leading international bioscience group, has found an ideal faxing solution in Fenestrae`s Faxination.

Zeneca is active in three main areas of business: pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and specialties.

Zeneca researches, develops, manufactures and markets products to improve human health, nutrition and quality of life around the world.

Zeneca`s product range includes the world`s largest selling breast cancer treatment; the world`s leading intravenous anaesthetic; the world`s second largest selling agricultural herbicide; and the UK`s leading meat-alternative brand.

Zeneca is currently No 2 in sales of cancer treatments, and markets the most comprehensive range of hormonal cancer therapies in the industry.

The agrochemicals business is the world`s third largest.

In a separate approach to supplying medicines which combat serious health problems, Zeneca also aims to provide a range of services which address total needs.

In the US, Stuart Disease Management Services helps to develop better quality, lower cost comprehensive care programs for patients with cardiovascular disease and asthma.

Also in the US, Zeneca owns Salick Health Care Inc, the leading US multi-site provider of cancer diagnosis and therapy services.

Challenge Zeneca Pharmaceuticals was migrating from an older legacy type of solution into a Microsoft Exchange environment, and required the ability to send and receive faxes via the e-mail client.

Key considerations were made for support, since Zeneca is a worldwide company, and for the longevity potential of the product.

In migrating from an old e-mail system, specifically Digital`s All-In-One, to Microsoft Exchange, Zeneca evaluated a number of faxing solutions before deciding upon Faxination.

"We conducted a paper evaluation of three or four systems including Faxsys and Rightfax," explains Partelow.

"Based on our initial studies," he continued, "we then went on to a technical evaluation of Omtool and Faxination."

Systems engineers at Zeneca put test criteria together for over a month so both products could be evaluated in a real-life environment.

"Our first business pilot was conducted in Austria and is now in production," says Partelow. "Currently, we are conducting the business pilot in the UK, and will begin in the US in the early second half of 1998." Other countries will be added as needed.

"Being an international company, it is critical to our operation that the product chosen was backed by good international support," explains Partelow. "Fenestrae`s support was superior to that of the competition," he continues, "and its Faxination system also supports foreign languages better."

Although its seamless integration with Microsoft Exchange did not hurt in the selection process, that was secondary to the support issue for Zeneca.

"We actually feel that there are pros and cons to the close integration with Exchange," said Partelow, "but it`s probably 60/40 on the pro side."

Zeneca has found Faxination to be a good tactical solution to its present fax/messaging needs and intends to look at it closely as a long-term solution as those needs change and evolve.
