MTN International MD Lazarus Zim has resigned to take up the deputy CEO post at Anglo American Corporation.

Zim, who was responsible for the supervision of MTN`s operations outside of SA, joined the MTN Group in July 2001.

His resignation is with effect from 30 September.

Group CEO Phuthuma Nhleko is to assume direct responsibility to the supervision and development of MTN`s international operations.

"Over the past year, the capacity at the MTN Group corporate centre in the key operational areas has been enhanced," the group says in a statement.

"These support functions at the corporate centre will continue to provide such managerial and operational support to enhance efficiency of the operations."

Prior to joining MTN, Zim was the CEO of MIH SA. He has also held the post of MD at pay-TV channel M-Net.
