ZyXEL's ZyWALL UTM series - fast, simple and secure

Johannesburg, 09 Nov 2006

Unified threat management (UTM) is fast becoming the trend in the network landscape, and for good reason. With technology continually converging and integrating, there is no longer the need to have different devices to manage your company's anti-spam, anti-virus and firewall applications.

Thus, UTM was born, and though there are a number of products on the market that boast advanced UTM architecture, none of them can hold a flame to ZyXEL's ZyWALL series of UTMs, which are being distributed locally by Rectron. The most entry-level ZyWALL 5, right through to the top of the range ZyWALL 1050, all include the following:

* Anti-spam
* Intrusion prevention
* Anti-virus
* Web content filtering
* Bandwidth management
* Load balancing
* VPN support
* Firewall

These features come standard with most UTMs currently on the market; however, the key differentiator when it comes to ZyXEL's ZyWALL series is the fact that this new product range boasts ZyXEL's world-first Network Security Turbo Card (SecuASIC), as well as a second CPU and hardware module to process information twenty times faster than software based UTMs and five times faster than ASCI-based UTMs.

The installation of ZyXEL's ZyWALL UTM is dead simple and is achievable in six essential steps in six minutes to deploy the robust information security appliance, providing the best security solution to meet your company's growing needs.

"Small and medium enterprises stand to benefit on a huge scale from this new all-in-one network security device from ZyXEL," says Stewart Diss, Server and Networking Product Manager at Rectron. "The security features that come with this product can all be set up at the same time, thereby relieving complicated installation and the management of diverse devices. More importantly, the anti-spam and anti-virus solutions come with a six-month free trial period, giving the tight-budgeted SMEs longer protection time than competing products."

Though many SMEs deploy UTMs in order to solve all their security annoyances in one shot, they often overlook the fact that the throughput of many SMB-class UTMs drops significantly to below 1MB per second with Layer 7 protections activated, thereby bottlenecking the network.

"This is where ZyXEL's world-first SecuASIC acceleration chip really comes in handy," continues Diss. "This chip enables the speed of ZyXEL's ZYWALL series to increase by up to 20 times faster than our competition, even with all eight security features enabled."

There is no size limit to the files being scanned by ZyXEL's ZyWall UTM series, which allows SMEs to fortify their networks without sacrificing decent data throughput required by media-rich applications.

The ZyXEL ZyWALL UTM series has three models designed for businesses and offices of different scales:

ZyWALL 70: Designed for SMB headquarters with approximately 100 users. Features dual WAN ports, 4 dedicated DMZ ports, 1 LAN port, 1 back panel extension card slot for acceleration card; 100 IPSec VPN tunnels.

ZyWALL 35: Suitable for SMB branch office with approximately 30 users. Features dual WAN ports, 4 LAN/DMZ ports, 1 back panel extension card slot for acceleration card; 35 IPSec VPN tunnels.

ZyWALL 5: Solution for SMB branch office with approximately 10 users. Features 1 WAN port, 4 LAN/DMZ port, 1 back panel extension card slot for acceleration card; 10 IP Sec VPN tunnels.
