The project to replace identity books with smart cards has moved on to the evaluation of available systems. A request for proposal is expected in May, but it seems unlikely that e-cash will be included.
The State IT Agency (SITA) will hold a seminar on the SA multi-application identification card at its Centurion offices from 9am to 2.30pm tomorrow.
