TSC Technologies JumpStart Division

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2013

TSC Technologies, a South African IBM Premier Partner for WebSphere and Rational brands, announced another successful JumpStart Skills Development graduation of 15 learners, all of whom have found beneficial employment within TSC Technologies and its client base. TSC Technologies has a learnership and professional services agreement with its clients for the provisioning of WebSphere skills.

Background

JumpStart had its beginnings in youth outreach programmes in some of Johannesburg's disadvantaged high schools. These schools are racked by poor quality of education, gangsterism and violence. The JumpStart training programme was established to equip some of these students with the belief that even such poor environments should not be excluded from high-end knowledge careers, like IT services. This was then adopted by TSC Technologies as part of the company's Corporate Social Initiative (CSI) and has grown from there to a weekly and Saturday school.

The JumpStart training programme follows a hands-on practical training path that offers learners internationally accredited IT training. The program gives learners the opportunity to gain valuable skills in using open and vendor technologies, along with international certifications and a competitive edge in the job market of the knowledge economy.

TSC does not charge for the training and progressively offers successful candidates increasing learner support over the 18- to 24-month programme. Based on their progressive growth and experience, TSC may then offer employment opportunities to successful candidates. Nearly 200 learners have found employment through the programme.

JumpStart is aligned to the SAQA Programming Standards, and is registered in the Systems Development Track by the ISETT (MICT) - SETA.

Approach and training model

JumpStart's focus seeks to address a holistic and practical approach to Information Technology. This emphasis is on academic benchmarks, practical experience and professional conduct in the application of this knowledge. Life skill units emphasise the importance of producing a well-rounded professional and set the JumpStart Learnership apart from most other corporate graduate programmes.

As a local IT services company, TSC prides itself on empowering local skills without compromising on the quality of delivery, and have run various initiatives since the company's inception.

TSC is a Level 1 BBB-EEE service provide for the ICT Sector.
