Aspiring tech entrepreneurs in Cape Town and Johannesburg can now apply for the Digify Pro course.

Youths in Cape Town and Johannesburg can sign-up to participate in a three-month digital skills course as applications are now open.

The course, which forms part of Digify Africa, aims to help young entrepreneurs wanting to get the training they need to start their tech careers.

Digify Africa is a digital training initiative delivered by Livity Africa, with support from Google, the Rockefeller Foundation and British Council.

Alan Winde, minister of economic opportunities in the Western Cape, has encouraged young people in the city to apply for the Digify Pro course, which is open to 18- to 30-year-olds living in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The course offers training in digital marketing, social media and content creation. It also incorporates key Google modules, including search, AdWords, YouTube and analytics. Trainees will work closely with brands, industry insiders and agencies to develop campaigns for live briefs.

Winde notes the Western Cape government has supported a range of initiatives to improve digital literacy.

"We are investing over R2 billion to connect residents to broadband. This year, we have rolled out 50 WiFi hotspots through our partnership with Neotel. To bolster usage of our WiFi hotspots, we introduced an Internet Champion Programme in partnership with Computers4Kids.

"Through this programme, we are training 'Internet champions', sourced from communities, to deliver a digital literacy programme to the citizens at our hotspots. This is to ensure the maximum number of residents sign up, and that they make the most of the service," according to Winde.

Interested youths can get more information and apply on the Digify Africa Web site.
