Cloud funds used as bait

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand can look forward to funds worth 200 000 to 400 000 baht ($6 500 to US$13 000) to adopt cloud computing, according to the deputy director general and CIO, department of industrial promotion, says Future Gov.

Veerapol Srilert, deputy director general and CIO, department of industrial promotion, ministry of industry, said to Future Gov Asia Pacific: “We want to promote the use of cloud computing to them because it helps solve many problems.”

“With cloud computing, the IT investment cost is low because there is no need to invest in a server and the enterprise resource planning solutions or applications can all be hosted on the cloud.”

RSA targets SME space

RSA, the security division of EMC, is targeting the SME space with RSA Authentication Manager Express, bringing enterprise-level authentication technology to businesses of any size, reveals eChannel Line.

The company will also be expanding its partner base with new security-focused partners who serve this market.

"What we have that no one else has is the ability to do risk-based authentication," says Joe Gabriel, director of global channel marketing at RSA. "This exists primarily in the enterprise, and is used in transactions in consumer applications like eTrade."

SMEs brace for big changes

The next 24 months are critical for anybody interested in cloud-based services for SMEs, says Matt Bramson, Inphonex chief marketing officer, reports TMCNet.

Perhaps the obvious trends are the move from TDM to VOIP; ubiquitous broadband; and a shift to the cloud for delivering applications.

The less well-understood trends are that customers are different, says Bramson. "Service providers are different and sales are going to be different."
