Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 2 to the South African market during a global launch on Tuesday afternoon, following the announcement last month.
The Galaxy Z Fold 2, which will be available locally from 25 September, will set Samsung enthusiasts back a hefty R49 999.
The South Korean tech giant describes the new foldable device as the next-generation in its foldable portfolio.
In February, Samsung announced it had chosen to brand its foldable device portfolio as Galaxy Z. The “Z”, it says, was chosen because “it communicates the idea of a fold while delivering a dynamic, youthful feel”.
After releasing two foldable devices and listening to user feedback on the most requested upgrades and new features, Samsung says it unveils the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with enhanced refinements and meaningful innovations.
According to Samsung, it has addressed the major criticisms of its first Galaxy Fold by giving the Galaxy Z Fold 2 a much bigger screen and better cameras. The successor to last year’s Galaxy Fold comes with a larger cover screen and main screen, a new camera system, and hole-punch cameras that give the new model a more cohesive look than the original.
It also pairs flex mode with app continuity to provide expanded usability, crossing the boundary between the cover and main screen. This flexibility, according to Samsung, enables the user to create or view content that is curated to one’s exact preferences, from folded to unfolded.

With the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Samsung indicates that users can access ultra-fast speeds thanks to its full 5G band compatibility, while the 4 500mAh all day battery and super-fast charging lessens worrying about battery life.
