Along with the BPMN standard, the OMG's task force on the business process definition metamodel project released a complete language that defines the semantics of process models.

Oracle has struggled to deliver a middleware platform for business process management and integrated, service-oriented architectures.

An internal project called Fusion that aims to develop such software has suffered numerous setbacks and delays since Oracle launched the effort in 2005.
