Deloitte uses Web2.0 learning

Johannesburg, 21 Dec 2009

The local arm of the consulting business, Deloitte, is aggregating content from global business schools for executives to download.

The Deloitte Leadership Academy (DLA) is hoping that employees will use the content from Harvard, Melbourne Business School, Skillsoft and Les50ns as well as 12 other content providers on the Web 2.0 platform as a tool to improve their own skills.

Andr'e Hugo, director at Deloitte Digital, says material is regularly updated and subscribers get a link on the latest thought leadership each week. “The content is always relevant and because of the nature of the platform it is possible to incorporate feedback, judged by peers, almost instantaneously.”

Each article is ranked, which Hugo says makes it easier for users to decide what material is relevant to their individual requirements. “Articles on the topic 'Leadership in Turbulent Times' have been particularly well received since the local launch,” he adds.

The aggregated content forms part of a full learnership course which will award employees a Harvard Business School certificate if they complete it.

“This type of learning is particularly useful in the context of executive development and can be used in preparation for a business school programme. The blended learning approach has been shown to be extremely effective in terms of cost savings and allowing candidates to assimilate best practice background in advance of classroom learning,” explains Hugo.

The content can also be downloaded in audio format, which the company is hoping will be used by executives to beat the traffic blues on the way to and from the office.
