Toshiba unveils No-Print Day

Toshiba, which sells a wide variety of printers, copiers, scanners and fax devices, is asking consumers to use less paper, PC World reports.

It is even sponsoring National No-Print Day, on 23 October, when it hopes the paperless office becomes a reality - if only for a day.

The irony of a printer manufacturer asking people to print less isn't lost on Toshiba, which addresses this issue on its National No-Print Day site.

Toshiba added that about 336 million sheets of paper are “wasted” daily, which means more than 40 000 trees are “discarded” every day in America, InfoBlog writes.

According to Bill Melo, VP of marketing, services and solutions at Toshiba America Business Solutions, individuals and companies are failing to make the link between printing waste and its negative impacts on the environment; consequently, Toshiba is leading the effort to raise awareness of the role of paper in the workplace by encouraging people to not print for one day.

As part of the campaign, Toshiba has launched a National No-Print Day Web site, Facebook page (where individuals can take the National No-Print Day pledge by 'liking' the page), and LinkedIn page. The company has also introduced an “affable spokescharacter” called “Tree”, who will be featured in a series of webisodes about National-No Print Day.
