Investigators in the case of murder-accused Oscar Pistorius are still struggling to obtain information stored on the athlete's iPhone, City Press reports.

According to the paper, investigators get an error message that the Apple ID or password is incorrect, despite Pistorius' attorney Brian Webber saying his client cooperated with police and gave the correct user details.

The paper reports that investigators are still looking for information stored on iCloud which might contain details of communication between Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp, his slain girlfriend.

Investigators hope to find evidence in Pistorius' digital footprint, including everything which might have been deleted form the phone.

City Press cites Apple experts, who say the password could be wrong because the phone owner remotely changed the password or the owner opened a new account, which means the new password would not correspond with the Apple ID on the phone.

With the trial set to begin on 3 March, police still need a US court to instruct Apple to crack the code to Pistorius' phone and they have used the International Cooperation in Criminal Matters Act to achieve this.

A member of the prosecuting team is quoted by City Press as saying the process has become "a logistical and bureaucratic nightmare because US privacy laws are a lot tougher than those in SA".
