Top South African sportscaster Robert Marawa has launched his own online TV channel.

The broadcaster took to social networking micro-blogging platform Twitter yesterday to announce the launch of Marawa.TV, which will be hosted on YouTube.

He tweeted: “You asked for it.......Now it is here......At your command!!!”

The announcement was well received, as within hours, 78 000 people had watched the video post, 7 000 people liked the post and 2 600 had retweeted the post.

At the time of publishing, 5 300 people had subscribed to Marawa.TV.

His first guest for the show was former Liverpool star and African Footballer of the Year, Senegalese, El Hadji Diouf.

Marawa, who has established his name beyond SA’s borders over the years, has been a somewhat permanent fixture on the broadcasting scene, working on radio, television and live events.

The outspoken sports broadcaster was fired from SuperSport earlier this year, with a cryptic statement from MultiChoice, which cited only a “very complex matter” as the reason behind his firing.

Marawa hinted he was let go after he spoke up in support of fellow sportscaster Mmaphuti Mashamaite, who is alleged to have been sexually harassed by her superior at SuperSport.

MultiChoice denied this.
