Accelerated time to discovery for knowledge workers

Silicon Graphics and MicroStrategy recently agreed to jointly develop and market the first fully integrated visual data mining/on-line analytical processing (OLAP) solution. This will accelerate time to discovery for knowledge workers in industries such as government, financial services, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, retail and manufacturing.

Aimed at enterprises worldwide, this solution combines the two companies` complementary technologies - data mining and OLAP - to create a best-of-breed analysis solution. Insight gained from data mining applications can be verified with decision support tools, while OLAP can help to identify better target areas for data mining.

"There is a demand for integrated, easy-to-use solutions for predictive modelling, business simulation, analysis and reporting," says Vaughan Wooler, MD of Silicon Graphics sub-Saharan Africa. "With MicroStragtegy we can now offer the industry a new threshold in quality and speed of strategic decision-making, allowing customers to gain a serious competitive advantage."

Silicon Graphics will combine MineSet, award-winning data mining and visualisation software, with MicroStrategy`s robust product line, DSS Suite. The payoff will be an effective tool for detecting fraud, creating personalised customer loyalty programs, optimising manufacturing processes and developing marketing campaigns.

Silicon Graphics` MineSet software, combined with their high-performance Origin servers, is a scalable client/server data mining solution for extracting information form data warehouses and revealing hidden patterns through intuitive, interactive, 3D visualisations. MicroStrategy`s decision support platform allows users to query and analyse the most detailed, transaction-level databases, turning data into business intelligence.

In addition to supporting internal enterprise users, MicroStrategy`s products extend DSS beyond corporate boundaries to customers, partners and supply chain constituencies through a broad range of pull and push technologies such as the Internet, e-mail, telephones, pagers and other wireless communications devices.
